Prove the chain, then help close it

Privilege, movement, evidence, and reporting

A finding matters when it connects initial access to a protected consequence.

Real compromise paths combine weaknesses: exposed service, flawed identity, excessive privilege, reachable secret, trusted automation, or weak segmentation. Ethical work keeps every step inside explicit scope, minimizes persistence and data access, records evidence, and stops when the agreed impact is demonstrated. Reporting then reconstructs the chain so defenders can break it at multiple points.

The goal is not maximum access; it is minimum-risk evidence of a meaningful attack path.

Severity without a reproducible chain creates heat, not repair.

A report should separate observation from inference, give exact preconditions and steps, bound affected assets and data, explain business consequence, and recommend controls at root cause and containment points. Avoid claiming more access than was demonstrated. Retest the original path and plausible variants after remediation.

Credibility grows when uncertainty and limits are as explicit as impact.
