Game designer Cliff Bleszinski joined Epic MegaGames as a teenager and became a prominent designer and director on Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Gears of War. Introduce a new weapon with twice the range and test whether geometry still supports counterplay. Record time-to-contact, exposure duration, and control of contested resources rather than relying on whether the match “felt fun.” Then add a player with higher network delay and distinguish authoritative simulation from visual compensation. This makes level design inspectable as a coupled system of topology, rules, information, timing, and human skill rather than artistic intuition alone. Invite players with different skill and mobility profiles, because balance measured only among expert designers can conceal barriers produced by input assumptions and visual or motor demands.
