## 1. Historical orientation

Andrew Grove (1936–2016) was a chemical engineer, early Intel employee, and later chief executive who shaped semiconductor manufacturing and strategy. His technical writing explained device physics and production; operationally he championed disciplined measurement, yield improvement, and high-output management. Intel's shift from memory toward microprocessors is often told as a single executive decision, but it emerged through competition, manufacturing economics, product teams, and customer demand. Grove's 'strategic inflection point' framework asks when the forces governing a business have changed enough that incremental optimization is dangerous. He executed within Moore's-law-era scaling; he did not personally cause or mechanistically 'drive' the physical law.
